The North Carolina Board for Licensing of Geologists is responsible for regulating the public practice of geology in North Carolina, in accordance with North Carolina General Statute §89E, the Geologists Licensing Act.

2024 Meeting Schedule to be set at December 8, 2023 meeting of the Board

The 2024 meeting schedule for the NC Board for Licensing of Geologists will be set at their December 8, 2023 regularly scheduled quarterly meeting. Typically, the Board meets in late January/early February, late April, late August and early November. The meetings are set to coincide with ASBOG® exam registration windows, when applicable.

2023-2024 License Renewal Now Open

Online renewal for the 2023-2024 license period is now available. Login and renew your license through the license portal by June 30, 2023.



Quarterly Board Meeting - 9:30 am - December 8, 2023 (postponed from November 2)

ASBOG® Examination - March 15, 2024

The ASBOG® exam is now administered by computer based testing (CBT). The exam can be taken at any of 575 testing facilities throughout the contiguous US, Puerto Rico, and Hawaii. There are currently 21 locations available in North Carolina. Visit for further information. Active exam candidates will receive further information in late November 2023. In order to take the March 15, 2024 exam, candidates must have a completed application on file with the NC Board. Your file must be complete by January 1, 2024 in order to ensure that the application can be approved by the Board at their first quarterly meeting in 2024 (date to be determined). The testing portal will open for registration approximately 6 weeks prior to the examination.
